How Are Y'all Doing? - The Culture Shock of Moving as a Teen

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

As a California native who moved to Nashville, the culture of the two places couldn't be any more different. Whether it comes to the way they speak or the clothes people wear, culture shock can be a big deal to teens moving. As much as I may love southern hospitality, sometimes I long for a conversation that doesn't involve any mention of sweet tea. On the other hand, I do love the usage here of the phrase "bless your heart", which for anyone who isn't from the south, is something you don't want to hear. Acclimating to the culture of a new city can be as important as moving into a new house or meeting new friends. Learning the lay of the land can create a much more comfortable environment and maybe make you feel a little less like an alien on an unknown planet. Culture shock is an important thing to know about before moving, and just know that with every city comes a new culture and that you shouldn't feel alone.
