Day 58

Glittering dresses, a spinning room, faces lighting up or dimming like the chandelier hanging above us. All I can see past the twinkling lights are vague expressions of curiosity, unsure what their next move will be. A herd of teen boys shoves their way past me as their phone cameras flash beside me. I sit down for a minute and plan my course of action. Which side of the room should I stand on? Does my hair look weird? I wonder when they'll be here? All conversations of this week have been leading up to this main event, the homecoming dance. I begin to wonder if I'm the only one feeling lost in this dark room. I look over towards the door, a boy looking over at me with the same pensive look in his eyes. He gets it.
