Day 539

Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon are expected to sweep the award show, given that they were directed by veteran directors Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorcese and were met with box office success and critical acclaim alike. However, less well-known films such as The Holdovers and Past Lives could find success at the Oscars, like many “underdog” films before them. Todd Haynes’ May December was noticeably omitted from the nominations all together, which is surprising because the movie stars Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, both past Oscar winners. However, most surprising about May December is the fact that Charles Melton was not nominated despite gaining traction at previous critics awards in the season.
