Day 453

Part of an article I wrote for Logos today...

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes came out November 17th, opening to immense anticipation. Being that it is the newest installment of one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, all eyes remain on “Songbirds and Snakes” to see what direction the franchise will take.

Will this be the last film or will this open up a whole new world of the Hunger Games universe? No one knows quite yet.

Now that the press has been going for a few weeks, there is more clarity on what the plot and characters of the movie will be. The movie stars Rachel Zegler, who just last year starred as Maria in another major blockbuster, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.

She plays Lucy Gray Baird, a determined rebel and beautiful singer from District 12 during a Hunger Games sixty years prior to the one depicted in the first book of the series. Lucy Gray is mentored by Coriolanus Snow, a once wealthy son of a leader in the elusive Capital. Mentors were a new fixture of the games, turning an already tenuous situation into an even more violent one.
