Day 426

About a week had passed since I’d arrived at my sleep away camp. Nothing too shocking had happened, just remedial things like a boy puked in the cafeteria and a bobcat was seen by a traveler about a mile from camp. I’d grown closer with my energetic cabin mates, sharing all of my somewhat dark secrets and making friendship bracelets for them during my down time. Natalia continued to serve as the mentor I expected her to be, telling me where not to sit and what not to say. On the Thursday after we arrived, Katy abruptly decided that she’d dye her hair green with some leftover Kool Aid from the cafeteria, which quickly became a group affair. Each member of the cabin yanked and soaked a separate piece of her hair in the raging California summer sun.
