Day 314

I received phone numbers on a summer's day,

To keep my wandering mind at bay.

I thought of many ways to send

Some texts that could possibly lend

To my future budding social life.

Tension grew within me,

Confidence became the hidden key.

Days kept going on and on,

Stewing from day until dawn.

My mind was occupied by only one thing;

There’s only one chance

To rise to the top like a king.

I spent the days drafting more.

It quickly became quite a bore.

I finally decided to send them out.

I wouldn’t let myself pout.

The time came to send the texts,

I wouldn’t let myself make a mess.

Message bubbles appearing on my phone,

Hoping they’d make me feel less alone.

To keep myself occupied,

I went out and looked at the sky.

My dog accompanied me on a walk

And I wished that he could talk.

I returned to my abode

And on my chest I felt a load.

It was time to check my fate,

I hope it won't be too late.

Staring down at the glowing screen,

I saw the responses I’d hoped I’d seen.

I stood up and jumped for joy

And was glad it wasn’t all a ploy.
